THE PROSPECTS OF A NEW COLD WAR, TARIK OĞUZLU
This brief examines to what extent the emergent geopolitical confrontations among the key global players, namely the United States, Russia and China, are reminiscent of the Cold War era politics between Washington and Moscow. The goal is to offer a comparative analysis between the dynamics of the Cold War era tensions and those of today’s world. Answering the question of whether we are now on the brink of a new Cold War among key global powers is important. The main argument is that it would be wrong to rush to the conclusion that what we observe today in great power relations is the exact replica of what we witnessed during the long Cold era.
